Mouse Activity Identified During Attic Noise Investigation — Brampton

Job Overview

Location: Brampton, Ontario
Structure: Tall attached three-storey townhouse
Problem: Nocturnal attic noise initially suspected to be wildlife
Service: Mouse treatment and rodent exclusion
Visits: Three

Summary

We were contacted regarding nighttime noises coming from the attic of a three-storey townhouse in Brampton. While the sounds were initially suspected to be caused by a raccoon, a full inspection confirmed an active mouse infestation. Our team completed a licensed mouse treatment followed by targeted exterior exclusion work. A final visit confirmed that the activity had stopped and the structure remained secure.

Background / Property Context

The property is a tall, attached townhouse with multiple shared walls and limited exterior clearance in some areas. The height of the structure and enclosed attic space can allow rodents to remain active without being immediately visible from the exterior.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported ongoing noises in the attic during nighttime hours. Due to the timing and volume of the sounds, there was concern that a raccoon may have entered the attic space.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial visit, our technician conducted a full exterior inspection looking for potential raccoon entry points. No damage or openings consistent with raccoon access were identified.
An interior attic inspection was then completed, where disturbed insulation and a noticeable concentration of mouse droppings were observed. Burrowing patterns in the insulation were consistent with mouse activity rather than larger wildlife.

Photos from the inspection show displaced attic insulation and areas of concentrated debris consistent with rodent movement.

Cause Analysis

Mice are able to access homes through very small exterior gaps, particularly around utility penetrations, vents, and foundation transitions. In attached townhouses, shared building lines and limited visibility can allow these openings to go unnoticed. Once inside, attic insulation provides warmth, cover, and nesting material.

Treatment / Removal

The mouse infestation was treated by a licensed exterminator using tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide. All pest control work was carried out in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines.
The treatment targeted active areas identified during the attic inspection and was designed to reduce the interior population before exclusion work was completed.

Exclusion & Repairs

On the second visit, our team completed rodent exclusion at several vulnerable exterior points, including:

  • One wall vent secured with a galvanized steel cage
  • Approximately one foot of exposed foundation sealed using mortar and galvanized steel mesh
  • Two utility line penetrations sealed with exterior-grade caulking and galvanized steel mesh

Photos document the installation of screening and sealing materials at these locations.

Outcome & Confirmation

At the final visit, the homeowner reported no further noise or activity in the attic or living areas. A follow-up inspection confirmed that the exclusion work remained intact and effective.
As an added preventative measure, exterior bait stations were installed to manage rodent activity around the perimeter of the home. No further rodent issues were identified at the time of completion.

Technician Notes

Richard conducted all inspections, treatments, and exclusion work across the three visits. Interior findings were consistent with an established mouse presence, and the combined treatment and exclusion approach successfully resolved the issue.
