Job Overview

Location: Brampton, Ontario
Structure: Large two-storey residential house with a multi-level rear deck
Problem: Rat activity reported inside the home, with entry points unknown
Service: Rat control and monitoring
Visits: 2

Summary

Our team completed a two-visit rat control service at a large residential property in Brampton after the homeowner reported active rat sightings inside the home. Interior trapping and exterior baiting were used together to address both indoor activity and the surrounding exterior population. Following treatment and monitoring, interior activity was confirmed resolved.

Background / Property Context

The property is a large two-storey home with a complex, multi-level wooden back deck attached to the rear of the structure. Decking and ground-level features can sometimes conceal rodent travel routes or potential access points, requiring detailed inspection during service.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported ongoing rat activity inside the house, primarily in the basement with indications that movement may have occurred on other levels as well. The entry points were not known at the time of service, raising concern about continued access from outside.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial visit, our technician confirmed active rat presence inside the home. A full exterior inspection was completed, including detailed inspection around and beneath the multi-level back deck. No visible or accessible exterior entry points were identified at the time of service.

Cause Analysis

Rats are commonly attracted to residential properties due to shelter opportunities and food availability in surrounding environments. Large structures with decks and ground-level voids can provide protected travel routes even when direct entry points are not immediately visible. Interior activity can occur when exterior populations are established close to the structure.

Treatment / Removal

All pest control work was carried out by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines.

On the first visit, large commercial-grade baited snap traps were placed inside the home in areas of confirmed activity. This approach was used to prevent rodents from dying inside wall cavities. On the exterior, large weighted tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide were installed to reduce the surrounding rat population.

Exclusion & Repairs

No exterior entry points were identified during inspection, including behind and beneath the back deck. As a result, no exclusion repairs were completed during this service.

Outcome & Confirmation

By the second visit, interior rat activity had ceased. The homeowner confirmed no further signs of rats inside the home. Exterior bait stations remained in use to continue managing the outside population, with no renewed interior activity reported.

Technician Notes

Dylan conducted both visits, confirming interior activity during the initial inspection and implementing a combined interior trapping and exterior baiting strategy. Follow-up confirmed successful resolution of the interior issue, with ongoing exterior control in place.
